Gabriel Levine Brislin is an artist and writer based in Edinburgh.

Writing: on Cathy Wilkes for Frieze Magazine; two poems from ‘The Book of Esther’ for the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award; two poems from ‘Lead White’ at the Edinburgh International Book Festival; ‘Bow’ published in Wet Grain, Issue 4; interviews and reviews for Dance Art Journal; on Mark Leckey at Cabinet Gallery; on Madeleine Wood at Arusha Gallery and Generator Projects; on Kim L. Pace at Arusha Gallery; ‘Their Eyes Are On The Sparrow’, a short story, long poem and performance script awarded the ECA Purchase Prize in 2021.

Projects: Votive Gallery, an itinerant curatorial project based in Edinburgh; the Experimental Writing Group at Embassy Gallery, co-organised with Iris Ollier; the Walter Benjamin Reading Group, currently on hiatus, which takes place in Edinburgh and online and is archived here; Bog Press, a micropublisher working with found and concrete poetries, co-edited with Arlo Gilham.

Exhibitions: Thrills’ (2024) at Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh, with Sophie Hall, Iris Ollier and Ann Pearce; ‘Word of Mouth’ (2024), curated by Maisie Wills for the Scottish Storytelling Centre (as Bog Press); ‘The Beauty of the World is the Mouth of a Labyrinth’ (2023), curated by Bea Dessent for Sett Studios, Edinburgh (as Bog Press); ECA 2021 Graduate Show online presentation.

Upcoming events: the Experimental Writing Group meets at 6:30pm on the 3rd Wednesday of every month and is open to anyone with an interest in writing about art, you can sign up for updates here; a writing workshop responding to the work of John Cage at the Fruitmarket Gallery on 6th December, 2024.
